I'm a hopeful cynic.

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak I'm sure I'm the exception (and the odd one out again) but I finished this book with a sinking heart. I wanted to love it, and I was enjoying it until about 70 or so percent when I started feeling I was being emotionally manipulated and force-fed the drama; I became annoyed, losing most of my interest in the story. The last couple of chapters and the way the story ended didn't help improve my impression. Still, there are some very beautiful parts in this book and I remember it for those.
